A victim of stress caused breast cancer, Katie passed from this life on the tenth anniversary of Patrick's murder. She fought a strong battle that ended shortly after a successful bone marrow transplant that cured her cancer but destroyed her lungs. It wasn't until this devastating struggle that we learned the insidious nature of the stresses resulting from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
These stresses often cause damage or destruction of the immune system, permitting a broad range of illnesses and diseases to run their course virtually unchecked. We would like to think her courageous battle and the lessons we learned are her legacy not only to her family but other victims and survivors as well.
